Joanie is a private assistant for invited users managing shared tasks and calendars. This policy explains how Joanie handles information used to provide its messaging, task, and calendar features.
Information Joanie handles
Joanie handles the phone numbers needed to verify household members, text messages sent to Joanie, household tasks and preferences, calendar proposals and approvals, and the delivery records needed to operate the service safely.
How information is used
Joanie uses this information to respond to requests, maintain household tasks, show exact calendar approvals, send requested reminders, prevent duplicate actions, and keep the service secure. Joanie does not use household information for advertising.
Household sharing
Shared household tasks and approved calendar actions are visible to the verified household members. Private conversations are not shared with another household member unless the person who owns that information explicitly approves the sharing action.
Mobile information
Joanie does not sell or share mobile information with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. Joanie uses messaging providers only to deliver the messages requested by verified household members.
Google sign-in and Calendar
Google sign-in requests basic identity permissions: your account identity, email address, and basic profile. Joanie uses your verified email and Google account identifier to recognize an invited household member and maintain a secure sign-in session. Signing in does not connect your calendar or inbox, and Joanie does not receive your Google password.
The household calendar owner can separately choose to connect Google Calendar. Google asks for permission to view calendar settings and sharing permissions, and to view and edit events on calendars that account owns. These permissions cover more than one calendar; Joanie limits its requests to the household calendar selected during setup. It checks the calendar name, timezone, ownership and sharing to verify the household audience. Joanie does not change calendar sharing permissions.
For calendar questions, Joanie reads event titles, dates or times, visibility and identifiers within the requested date range. Private or confidential events appear as busy time, without their titles. Calendar answers omit event descriptions, attendees and source links. Household calendar details may appear in either member’s private conversation or the verified household group. Creating an event requires the exact preview and the required approval; privately sourced content requires its owner’s authenticated approval before publication. Joanie creates events without attendees or invitation emails. It checks the approved fields and identifiers of events it creates to verify the outcome and avoid duplicates, including after an interrupted request.
Gmail is a separate connection. Google sign-in and Calendar permission do not give Joanie access to your inbox. Inbox access is not part of this connection and requires separate disclosures, setup and consent before it is enabled.
Storage and service providers
Joanie stores account identifiers, secure-session records, encrypted Calendar connection credentials, calendar references, proposals, approvals and the records needed to prevent duplicate actions in its access-controlled database. Relevant calendar details can also appear in conversation history and saved tasks when needed for your request.
Cloudflare hosts Joanie and handles web requests; Neon hosts its database. To interpret a request or answer a calendar question, relevant conversation, task, preference and limited calendar details may be sent to Cloudflare Workers AI for model processing. The configured model route does not switch to another provider automatically. Telnyx and mobile carriers process the resulting text messages for delivery. Google receives approved event fields when Joanie adds an event to the household calendar.
Google passwords, sign-in tokens and Calendar connection credentials are never included in model requests. Joanie does not use Google user data for advertising, sell it, or use it to train models. Before household data is processed, the selected model service must pass Joanie’s no-training and content-retention checks. SMS and MMS are not end-to-end encrypted.
Joanie limits Google data use and transfers to the requested household features and follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Human access to Google data is limited to your agreement to review specific data, necessary security work, or legal requirements.
Retention and removal
During household setup, each member reviews the retention periods for conversation history, activity details and backup copies before confirming them. Saved tasks and explicit preferences are kept separately until removed or corrected. Minimal deletion and action records are retained to prevent forgotten data from returning after recovery and to avoid duplicate actions.
You can ask Joanie to forget saved information or contact hey@joanie.app for removal help. Clearing current copies does not immediately erase backup copies; they must expire under the schedule disclosed during setup, and deletion records must be applied before restored data is used. Backup storage and expiration still need verification before household use begins. Removing data from Joanie cannot recall texts already delivered or events already added to Google Calendar.
Disconnecting Google
The calendar owner can choose Disconnect from Joanie on the Calendar connection page. This removes Joanie’s stored Calendar credentials and pauses calendar work. It does not delete existing events, erase saved household records or revoke permission in Google. To revoke Google access as well, review Joanie in your Google Account connections. Revoking a Google connection is separate from requesting deletion of data already held by Joanie. Signing out of Joanie ends that browser session; it does not disconnect Calendar.
